Effective treatments to kill termites usually involve the application of chemicals either to the inside or exterior or your house or both, depending on the degree of infestation. While certain products are sold to the general public, extreme caution should be taken when using these as they are highly toxic and can cause serious harm to people, pets and the environment.

Sodium borate and orange oil (d-Limonene) are used by some as “natural” termite treatments and repellents but their efficacy has not been widely reported. Again, whether these treatments work your home or not may depending on the degree of infestation, how close you can get to the actual termites and even the type of termites you have.

The best solution to ensure proper and safe extermination is to contact a licensed, professional exterminator.

  • Prevent wood contact with the ground, including treated wood which is not always immune to termite attacks.
  • Do not store lumber or any wood debris against or near the foundation or crawl space.
  • Minimize the use of wood chip and mulch, specially around wooden areas of your home.
  • Have a professional exterminator inspect and treat your home regularly. This can help prevent termites and get rid of existing ones.
